Am I guessing your thinking, are you crazy? I wasn’t, however. Earlier in the day I’d flown from Belgrade, Serbia into Zurich, Switzerland. Later I’d get a plane to London, Luton. I know crazy, but it worked out cheaper, so I was going for it.

After arriving in Zurich, we headed to the food court ready to make a plan for the day! Adam was hungry after the flight & we had a very early start, so he opted for a McDonalds. The cost shocked Adam. It was around 19 CHF which is approximately £14; it was only a standard meal too.

After much discussion, we decided to head to the FIFA museum, which is within the Fifa Headquarters building based in Zurich. As we are both big football fans, it seemed an ideal opportunity to go to the museum that we usually wouldn’t get to visit.

We decided to take an Uber from the airport for speed. Quick-tip: You have to be in Arrivals Level 2 to pick up your Uber. Adam had to lift me in, but I’m ok with that. If you want an accessible taxi, I’d recommend you pre-book. Our Uber was about 25 CHF which is about £19. It took us around 20 minutes to reach the museum.

Once reaching the museum we entered and was pleasantly surprised as the price was only 14CHF which equates to around £11 for both me & Adam. I won’t go into much more detail as I’d like to do a full post on the museum it’s self.

After leaving the museum, we had a roll / walk around the local area, taking pictures of beautiful scenery and architecture. We also took some great photos of the FIFA Hotel.

We decided to try public transport to return to the airport and so went and booked the tickets. Top tip: They are valid for 1 hour after purchase, so be careful when buying. It cost us around 15 CHF each so about £12 for a single, but we were travelling around 5.30 pm, so it wasn’t too bad.

The train station itself was accessible, but we needed a platform over the other side so had to walk up a large hill which meant a lot of pushing for Adam. We then used a lift to the platform. It would be best if you ideally got on the train where there’s a wheelchair sign. It should be fully accessible from platform to train, with no pre-booking required, hurray!

There was a space on the train for me. The journey took 20 minutes. Once arriving at the airport, we exited the train with ease and headed to departures. We checked my wheelchair in with EasyJet & headed off into the airport. I keep my wheelchair with me until I reach the plane door.

We explored Zurich Airport and found their runway viewing platform. Now Adam likes planes, so we went to have a look at the aircraft on the runway. You have to go through security before being let through as your so close to the runway. We got tickets and paid £0. I’m not sure if that’s everyone or whether it is just due to the wheelchair. We timed it just right as we got to watch the sunset over the hills at the back of the runway. Adam has done a full blog post on it here.

Before long, we headed through security & then on to our gate for our short plane journey back to London.

We enjoyed Zurich & can’t wait to return soon!
